Water Department
Water System
The Village of Edgar owns and operates its own municipal water supply system, providing clean and reliable drinking water to about 1,488 residents and businesses. On average, our community uses around 100,000 gallons of water each day.
Our Water Supply
The Village’s water comes from four deep wells, located on opposite ends of the community to ensure reliable service. Two of the wells (Wells 10 and 11) are the primary sources of drinking water, while Wells 8 and 9 serve as backups if needed.
Treatment & Safety
To make sure our water is safe and healthy, the following treatments are added at Wells 10 and 11 before water enters the system:
-
Chlorine for disinfection
-
Sodium hydroxide to reduce corrosivity and protect plumbing
-
Fluoride to promote dental health
The system includes an elevated reservoir that holds up to 200,000 gallons. This storage helps keep water pressure steady (between 40–90 psi) and ensures there’s always enough water available for daily use and fire protection.
In case of a power outage, the Village also owns a portable generator that can keep the wells and treatment systems running without interruption.
Our Team
The water system is managed by three State-Certified Water Operators who monitor, maintain, and test the system daily. Their expertise ensures our water meets or exceeds all state and federal safety standards.
Protecting Our Water for the Future
The Village has a Wellhead Protection Overlay District in place, which sets land use guidelines around our well fields. This helps safeguard Edgar’s drinking water supply and ensures we can continue to provide safe, clean water for generations to come.
