Branching Out Edgar - Boulevard Tree Diversity and Canopy Expansion
3rd & 4th Avenue Residents – Would You Like a Boulevard Tree Planted This Spring?
The Village of Edgar is excited to share that we have been awarded a 2026 Wisconsin DNR Urban Forestry Grant in the amount of $16,270.34 to expand and diversify our boulevard tree canopy
Our project, “Branching Out Edgar – Boulevard Tree Diversity & Canopy Expansion,” will plant 40 climate-resilient Legacy Trees this year. These trees will be professionally installed using a pallet system and come with a 5-year guarantee, ensuring strong establishment and long-term success.
The total project investment is approximately $32,540, with the DNR covering 50% and the Village matching the remaining 50%. The Village’s match will primarily come from Village labor and equipment, meaning we are leveraging existing staff and resources to maximize the impact of this grant funding.
Why are we doing this?
Nearly 20% of Edgar’s boulevard trees are ash, making our canopy vulnerable to Emerald Ash Borer.
Maple and spruce are also overrepresented.
This project helps us follow the 5-10-20 diversity guideline to build a healthier, more resilient urban forest.
We are working to restore canopy along 3rd and 4th Avenue following recent construction.
If you live on 3rd Avenue or 4th Avenue and would like a boulevard tree planted in front of your home this spring, please contact the Village Office at 715-352-2891 or email jennifer.lopez@edgarwi.gov
We will:
Confirm terrace width and utility clearances
Select diverse, climate-appropriate species
Professionally install and mulch the tree
Provide establishment care guidance

Let’s keep growing forward.
