Street Department

The Street Department is dedicated to keeping Edgar’s roadways safe, reliable, and well-maintained all year long. With about 12 miles of road surfaces in the Village, their goal is to provide the best street system possible for drivers, bikers, and pedestrians alike.

 

Summer Maintenance

In the warmer months, the Street Department takes care of:

  • Repairing potholes and patching road surfaces

  • Sweeping streets and keeping them clean

  • Inspecting sidewalks for safety

  • Grading gravel surfaces

  • Clearing debris from storm sewers to prevent flooding

  • Planting and trimming trees along Village boulevards

They also work closely with Village officials, engineers, and utilities to plan and carry out new street projects and improvements.

Winter Maintenance

When winter weather hits, the team is on call to:

  • Monitor storms and mobilize crews for snow plowing and sanding

  • Load and haul snow between storms to improve visibility and safety

  • Keep roads clear for both vehicles and pedestrians

Other Responsibilities

In addition to day-to-day street care, the Street Department also:

  • Maintains and services Village equipment for efficient use

  • Stays current with safety practices and procedures

  • Determines street grades for garage floors during new home construction

Parks Department

As the Village of Parks, Edgar takes great pride in its park system—and the Parks Department plays a big role in keeping these spaces safe, clean, and welcoming year-round.

Summer Maintenance

During the summer months, the Parks Department focuses on:

  • Mowing grass and keeping park grounds looking their best

  • Maintaining and cleaning shelters, restrooms, and other park buildings

  • Inspecting and repairing playgrounds and recreational equipment

Winter Maintenance

When the snow arrives, the team shifts focus to:

  • Clearing sidewalks around Village-owned properties

  • Building and maintaining the community ice rinks for winter fun
